Problem Centered
You’ve just shared your new favorite song with a friend but they’re unimpressed. How do you describe why you find this song so catchy?
-
Training Goals:
To connecting learners with real-world situations they will face in their role as reading room assistants in order to build confidence in enforcing library procedures designed to protect archival materials.
-
Analysis: I conducted needs analysis to identify challenges reading room assistants faced when managing patrons in the reading room. I determined that most reading room accidents occurred when assistants did not feel confident in confronting and correcting patron behavior.
Design: I created a scenario-based eLearning experience where reading room assistants could practice enforcing library rules and procedures. I framed the scenario around an assistant’s first day in the reading room and her interactions with a visiting patron. Though there are many opportunities for accidents in an archives, I chose a scenario where the assistant must interact with and correct the behavior of a patron.
Develop: I designed custom and cohesive visual assets and interactive prototypes before developing the final product in Articulate Storyline
Feedback: I sought and incorporated feedback from instructional designers and library professionals at multiple points in the design and development process.

Adobe Creative Suite (custom visuals)
Miro (action mapping)
PowerPoint (visual storyboard)
GoogleDocs (text-based storyboard)
Text-Based Storyboard
I drafted and developed a text-based storyboard with an emphasis on detail and programming notes to support Articulate Storyline development. It includes question prompts, correct answers, realistic distractors, as well as guidance points from the mentor character.
Get in the Groove
Imagine this: You’ve just heard a new song by your favorite band and it has become your new pump up jam. You go to share it with a friend and they’re not impressed. This eLearning experience uses Merrill’s Principles of Instruction to guide learners in mastering the elements of music in order to convince their friend of their favorite song’s merit!
Features: Custom visuals, Perspective mentor feedback
Job Aid
I designed a job aid using Canva as a reference tool for archival assistants. It can be displayed in the archive offices or kept for easy access on the reading room assistant desk. This aid supports archive staff in enforcing reading room rules and keeping archival materials safe.
